Our Teacher of the Month for March is Mrs. Desi Smith, Special Education Teacher at Liberty High School! She was selected by her peers as an exemplary teacher! Below are all of the things that her peers had to say about her. -Mrs. Smith always has a warm disposition to students and staff. She makes everyone feel welcome and is always willing to lend a helping hand. -She is an amazing teacher. She is always willing to help anyone and everyone. -Mrs. Smith has taken on a new coaching role this year. On top of her regular case load, she has willingly given up her prep period during season to help her team be successful. She has also continued to give up her prep period for the remainder of the year to help fill a void that we have in 7th hour. This creates extra work on her part either before or after school and it is appreciated from my office. -Desi is wonderful at what she does. I never hear her complain about anything. She has a great attitude and is a great joy to work with. She is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. -Desi always has a positive attitude. She always has a smile on her face and is an extremely hard worker. -Mrs. Smith is a very dedicated teacher and spends a great deal of time working with her Sped students to ensure they receive instruction and support. Desi brought the District Title home for our basketball girls, and didn't skip a beat in her academic duties. Amazing teacher and mentor for our students. From ALL of us at MVBT, thank you, Mrs. Smith! We appreciate you!! Thank you Lois Wood and Beyond Blessed Creations for donating the basket!

We're celebrating #TeacherProudTuesday today! We want to recognize Mr. Jackson Conner, MVE/BTE PE teacher. Coach Conner was nominated and these kind words were shared about him. "Coach Conner has this calm demeanor, but he truly enjoys what he is doing. The students look up to him. At BTE, they dressed like him...even with the mustache." Another nomination said, "I am nominating Coach Conner because he uses his role as a coach to form bonds with students. Having an awesome coach can be the reason some students want to be at school. I have watched this create a love for physical education in students where there was previously no passion for it. I also feel that in a technological era, igniting a passion for exercise can be difficult, but Coach is up for the challenge! Thank you so much, Coach! Your had work does not go unnoticed." MVBT is thankful for the impact that the PE coaches have on all of the students!!

Tonight, our Parents as Teachers Group Connection event soared to new heights! Children and parents explored airplanes, a fire truck, a school bus, and a police car, thanks to the generosity of Officer Kylie McMee, Firefighters Joey Gehlken and Jason Taber, Bus Driver Tammy Castevens, and Pilot Mikael Orchard. Mikael Orchard also grilled several hotdogs for the families. Special thanks to everyone who brought their vehicles to make the event unforgettable. With 22 families and a total of 58 attendees, it was a blast! Huge appreciation to Terri Orchard for leading the event, and Jessin Adams, Patricia Wilhelm, and Lora Adams for their assistance. We are also so grateful for area businesses who donated a table full of awesome door prizes. Most of all, we want to thank our parents for attending with their future Liberty Eagles! Although it was our last meeting this year, we can't wait for more exciting activities in the next school year!

This week Mr. Collins' 9th grade social studies classes concluded their month-long stock market activity. Students simulated making investments using stocks and/or crypto currency. Students were allotted an initial balance of $10,000 for the activity. They were required to keep a minimum of five percent of their initial balance in reserve and had to pay a three percent brokerage fee for each of their buy/sell transactions. Students tracked their investments over the course of four weeks and simulated a sale of assets on the final day to complete the project which included a twelve percent deduction to simulate federal taxes on realized short term capital gains. Mr. Eric Wells, member of the MVBT board of education and VP of the Liberty Branch of West Plains Bank and Trust Company, Mrs. Lindsay Holden, Assistant VP, and Kerri Vermillion of West Plains Bank presented our winners with gift cards for their accomplishments. The top three earners, and their net gains are: 3rd Place Ty Roby $167.27 2nd Place Marianne Dewick $328.10 1st Place Evan Cope $542.66

After the election was certified, Gaylon Noble emerged as the winner, leaving a tie between Dr. Jennifer Foster and Mike Smith. The tied candidates agreed to forego a special election, agreeing to toss a coin to break the tie. (A special election would have cost the district a significant amount of money. Neither candidate wanted to place that financial burden on the district.) We had originally planned to toss the coin at our next board meeting, but due to unexpected circumstances we had to move our coin toss to this evening. Vice President Eric Wells tossed a coin. Mike Smith won the coin toss. At our upcoming board meeting next Tuesday night, we will be reorganizing the board, welcoming Gaylon Noble and Mike Smith into their new roles. Dr. Jennifer Foster has served on the board since 2015. Her dedication and leadership have been invaluable to our community. We extend our heartfelt gratitude for her service.

We have a parent involvement team who has been looking at opportunities to get parents more involved throughout the district. There is no doubt that parent involvement is crucial to a student's success. The parent involvement team created a survey that you can complete to provide your input. We need your help in finding ways to increase parent involvement opportunities. Please help us by completing this survey: https://forms.gle/tyniNMVxvxNKXbcJ7
