Lisa Pruett is an exceptional Science teacher who skillfully integrates literacy into her lessons all the time. She encourages critical thinking and comprehension by offering her students articles, vocabulary activities, summarizing ideas, and opportunities to engage in thoughtful discussions. Through the use of graphic organizers and close reading strategies, Mrs. Pruett ensures her students grasp scientific terminology but also develop strong reading and writing skills. She uses real-life examples and experiences to bring her Science content to life to instill a deeper connection for her students. Lisa has a passion for literacy that shows in her teaching each day. She automatically includes reading and writing with a purpose in Science. She does more than even she realizes sometimes! Her students gain confidence in their abilities to communicate scientific ideas through her teaching style. Lisa Pruett is a content-area literacy queen! #TheLMSWay

Janiece Wilbanks is a literacy queen! Sure, she may teach Math, but that doesn’t stop her from using literacy strategies to help her students grow. First instincts may make you wonder, “How is that even possible in a Math class?” Mrs. Wilbanks includes literacy flawlessly often in her classroom, whether it be through vocabulary, underlining important details to solve a problem, or writing about and creating projects from a choice board. For instance, one day this week she had groups of students come up with as many vocabulary words as they could remember relating to the unit being studied. Then they discussed the words, meanings, and examples to show understanding of important concepts in the unit. To further this comprehension, paragraphs were written using these words, and creative posters were made. Students illustrated and used examples to show their learning. Mrs. Wilbanks never ceases to be an amazing asset to LMS! #TheLMSWay
